Bestselling “Shopaholic” Author Sophie Kinsella Reveals Brain Cancer Battle

Sophie Kinsella, the author behind the wildly popular “Shopaholic” book series, has opened up about her brave battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer.

In an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday, Kinsella shared the news that she was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a fast-growing type of brain tumor, at the end of 2022.

“I’ve wanted for a long time to share with you a health update and I’ve been waiting for the strength to do so,” the author wrote. “At the end of 2022, I was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of aggressive brain cancer.”

Glioblastomas are the most common type of malignant brain tumors in adults, known for their rapid growth and challenging treatment. Despite the severity of her diagnosis, Sophie Kinsella remained optimistic, sharing that she has undergone successful surgery, radiotherapy, and ongoing chemotherapy under the care of an “excellent team” at a London hospital.

“At the moment, all is stable and I am feeling generally very well, though I get very tired and my memory is even worse than it was before,” she added, acknowledging the side effects of her treatment.

Further into her post, Kinsella also expressed gratitude for the support of her family, friends, and devoted readers during this challenging time.

“I am so grateful to my family and close friends who have been an incredible support to me, and to the wonderful doctors and nurses who have treated me,” she wrote. “I am also so grateful to my readers for your constant support.”
