Kid Cudi’s highly-anticipated Coachella performance turned into an unfortunate event, when the rapper injured himself after attempting to jump off the stage during his Sunday set. The incident left the star unable to finish his show at the music festival.
Kid Cudi himself confirmed the extent of the injury on X (formerly Twitter) late Sunday night, revealing he had broken a bone in his foot – his first broken bone ever.
“I broke my foot today at the show. just leavin the hospital. Never broken a bone before so this is all a bit crazy,” the musician wrote.
Fan-captured video shows the shocking moment towards the end of the rapper’s set as he was performing his song “Best Memories” with David Guetta. Kid Cudi can be seen leaping off the stage, landing awkwardly beside a security guard.
Unable to stand, he had to be helped off stage, abruptly ending his performance prematurely.
Prior to this, Kid Cudi had been treating the massive crowd to an energetic set, even debuting two new songs “Moon Man Shit” and “Blue Sky” live for the first time. He also ran through fan-favorites like “Up Up & Away” and “Tequila Shots.”
While the abrupt ending was undoubtedly painful for the acclaimed rapper, he still expressed gratitude that fans kept the energy alive even after he departed, writing “I heard yall still ragin when I was offstage. Made me smile big.”
Kid Cudi is scheduled to kick off his world tour in support of his latest album “Insano” on July 28 in Austin, Texas. His Coachella appearance marked the first time he had played the festival since making a surprise guest appearance during Kanye West’s set in 2019.
