Sports Power Couple Kelsey Plum and Darren Waller Split After 1 Year of Marriage

One of sports’ highest-profile marriages has come to an abrupt end, as WNBA champion Kelsey Plum and NFL tight end Darren Waller have filed for divorce after just one year as husband and wife.

Court records in Clark County, Nevada show the Las Vegas Aces guard and New York Giants player submitted a joint petition on Tuesday to terminate their union. It has only been 13 months that the couple tied the knot in March 2023.

Kelsey Plum, a two-time WNBA champion and Olympic gold medalist, appeared to reference the breakup in a message shared to social media the same day as the filing.

“I’m devastated. I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it’s time to go,” the 29-year-old wrote on X. “One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day. Thank you for the grace to process my pain, to forgive and move forward. Today and everyday I will continue to choose joy.”

Waller, who was traded from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Giants last offseason, has not publicly commented on the divorce. The former Pro Bowler’s future in the NFL is also uncertain following reports that he is contemplating retirement.

When they wedded last year, Kelsey Plum and Darren Waller were at the peaks of their respective careers while based in Las Vegas, where they frequently appeared together at events and originally planned to make their home.

However, Waller’s trade to New York disrupted those plans, forcing them into a bicoastal living situation as Plum remained with the Aces franchise that drafted her first overall in 2017.

No further details about what precipitated the separation have been revealed, but the joint filing suggests an amicable procedure.
