Rising country star Morgan Wallen is facing serious charges after a reckless incident in downtown Nashville over the weekend.
The 30-year-old singer was arrested early Monday morning on allegations of throwing a chair from the sixth-story rooftop of Eric Church’s new honky-tonk bar Chief’s, endangering police officers and civilians below.
According to the arrest report, Metro Nashville police officers were stationed in front of Chief’s Bar on Broadway Sunday night when a chair unexpectedly fell from above, narrowly missing them by just feet. Bar staff identified Wallen as the culprit, stating he had thrown the object over the roof’s edge.
WTVF reported that the surveillance footage reviewed by officers allegedly shows Wallen “lunging and throwing an object over the roof” before laughing about his actions, as witnessed by onlookers.
Based on this evidence, Wallen was arrested and charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment – two for the officers and one for the general public risk.
The “Wasted on You” singer, who has had an otherwise meteoric rise in country music, was also hit with a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge. His bond was set at $15,250, which he posted hours later around 3:30 am after being booked into jail.
His next court appearance is set for May 3rd.
According to WSMV, in a brief statement, Wallen’s legal team confirmed the arrests saying,
“At 10:53p Sunday evening Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities.”
The timing could not be more inopportune for the singer-songwriter, who is scheduled to play three sold-out stadium shows at Nissan Stadium in Nashville this week on May 2nd and 3rd as part of his hugely popular “One Night At A Time” tour.
