Taylor Swift has surprised her fans with not one, but two new albums. The Grammy-winning artist released her highly anticipated 11th studio album, “Tortured Poets Department,” on Friday, and then followed it up with a surprise 15-song collection titled “TTPD: The Anthology” just a few hours later.
In an Instagram post, Swift described the initial 16-track “Tortured Poets Department” album as “an anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.”
She added, “This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it. And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.”
The album features several high-profile collaborations, including the gorgeous duet “Florida!!!” with Florence + the Machine and the dynamic lead single “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone. Taylor Swift’s longtime collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner also lent their songwriting and production talents to various tracks.
The surprise “TTPD: The Anthology” album is also a 15-song collection that includes previously announced exclusive vinyl variant bonus tracks like “The Black Dog,” “The Albatross,” “The Bolter,” and “The Manuscript,” as well as numerous other new songs.
The double album release comes amid Taylor Swift’s record-breaking “Eras Tour” and her Grammy wins earlier this year, further cementing her status as one of the most influential and successful artists of our time. Industry experts are already predicting massive sales and streaming numbers for “Tortured Poets Department” and “TTPD: The Anthology.”
